Movie Matinee – Back to the 1990s!

On Sunday, members of the 591 Signals Unit Association came together for a screening of the 1994 training film on Communications Security, the role of 591 Signals Unit, and Radio Procedure.

The film, originally produced as an instructional and awareness tool, was filmed with serving personnel from 591 Signals Unit in 1994. For many attending members, the screening provided a powerful and nostalgic reminder of life on 591 SU during the 1990s—from daily routines and working practices to the professionalism and camaraderie that defined the unit.

As the film played, it prompted discussion and shared recollections from the members, highlighting how core principles such as communications discipline, security, and procedural accuracy remain as relevant today as they were three decades ago. For some members, it was an opportunity to see familiar faces and locations once again; for others, it offered valuable insight into the unit’s operational heritage.

This get together was more than a simple screening. It served as a reminder of the enduring standards, culture, and contribution of 591 Signals Unit across generations. Events such as this continue to strengthen the Association’s role in preserving unit history, fostering connection, and maintaining pride in service.
